When's the last time you took a day off to escape and reconnected with your other half? I was invited to check out Glen Ivy Hot Springs and jumped at the opportunity to make it a quick daytime getaway with my husband. Alone time is beyond a rarity for us since our daughter came along, I could honestly count the couple outings we have experienced together on one hand in the past 9 years.

I will be honest and tell you I wasn't quite sure what to expect at Glen Ivy but looking back on our day I can see how they have been around for over 150 years. We were given a tour of the grounds, reminded of our time booked for our massages and were released into the spa. Even with a map, I was unsure where to begin, not because it was confusing ... because there are so many pools with different experiences to partake in. So if you are or were like me and haven't experienced Glen Ivy Hot Springs before, I've got all the details below PLUS a chance at a day pass for "Taking the Waters"!

First off Glen Ivy Hot Springs is a full service destination offering shopping, spa services, dining, along with beverages including fresh and healthy or "adult" themed along with all of the relaxing pools and saunas.

Roman Bath located within the ladies section of the bath house.

After checking into the resorts reception, the Bath House will be your first stop on your days journey. Here you can check out a robe if you didn't bring your own, get yourself a locker (free to use) and get changed into your swim suit. The Bath House has a full vanity area, showers, restrooms, changing rooms and features a Roman Bath, well its more like a pool. There is really no wrong or right way to experience the spa from here on out. If you plan to sunbathe, grab a spot and set yourself up in one of the many pool areas. Leaving a magazine or a personal item will save your spot when you decide to venture out into the rest of the spa.

Some tips on visiting Glen Ivy:

  • Feel free to bring your own bathrobe (or you can rent one for 15)
  • No outside food or drinks are allowed
  • Bring a black swim suit as the clay in the mud area will stain
  • No need to bring your own towel, plenty are provided
  • Placing a CC on file at the reception makes the day easier for making charges for food or drinks without having to carry a wallet around.
  • Refrain from consuming alcohol 2 hours before any spa treatment
  • As the day goes on, the spa gets busier. Cooler days and right at opening you will experience less crowds.
  • Booking a treatment 3-4 weeks in advance will secure your time, taking a chance at a same day treatment might not result in the service tor time you desire.

My favorite area? It's hard to pick just one but Club Mud was pretty awesome! I mean how often can you sling mud at your partner and get away with it? But on a serious note, the mud was so smooth and the exfoliating properties were very nice. After applying the mud we stepped into a heated room and baked till it dried. Toweling off the dried mud really gives you a great polish before dipping into the pool where you can reapply even more mud. The benefits are it exfoliates and draws out impurities in your skin. My second favorite pool was the Saline Pool (epson salt infused water), it is heated and leaves you very relaxed.

The red clay within Club Mud, apply everywhere and liberally.

As for my husband, I think he enjoyed the Hot and Cold Cycle Pools the most. It was kinda fun cheering on each other as you first dip into the hot pool, stay for 2 minutes then pop into the cold pool which is 60 degrees. There you stay about 30 seconds and then repeat the process all over again. The benefit? It increases circulation and eliminates toxins, you totally gotta try it! We both double dipped in the Mineral Baths, the smell isn't all bad really compared to others I have experienced (geothermal sulfurous waters) and the 104 temperature is beyond relaxing!

All that pool hoping will make you hungry. This is where you pick from uber healthy or splurge! We went for a happy medium between the both with their Ahi Tuna and their Mushroom omelet. I can't recommend their fresh squeezed orange juice enough, it is perfection.
