DIY Holiday Door Trimming

DIY Holiday Door Decor

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas around my house with the tree finally up and decorated. I like the idea of an artificial tree but always opt for a fresh one. It's the smell and natural imperfections that I love. The trimmings off the trees are trashed at most home centers but are a treasure to me. Here's an easy DIY utilizing the trimmed branches to make your own door trimming in place of the traditional wreath for nothing but your time!

DIY Holiday Door Trimming

Gather up the following things that you surely have already in your Christmas ornament box or get anything similar at your local hobby store along with the fresh cut tree trimmings. (Trimmings are free at your local home store tree lot) If you like theming your wreath, you can do that as well. Like a candy can one, Disney or Knottā€™s with anything from cut outs to small toys and just add coordinating bows. The themes are endless!

  • Ribbon

  • Artificial flowers in holiday theme or color.

  • Any other decorations that you have, ornaments, bells, bows.

Just an example of what you can use

  1. Gather up like sized branches and layer 4-5 on top of one another.

  2. Take a wired flower or other floral item like ribbon and use it to secure the tops of the branches together.

  3. Add a big bow to top leaving several inches of the exposed branch showing.

  4. Layer your desired decorations by either sliding them under the wired top or securing with wire.

5. Tuck in a finishing item to cover the wire securing the branches together.

6. Finally, in the back you can make a loop with wire for hanging on the door.

So, think it's something you could do? I literally paid zero dollars for this years door trimming. I'm sure I'll find something to spend that saved money on if my daughter has anything to say about it.
