Carved and Enchanted Forest of Lights Return to Descanso Gardens

Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge announces the return of two beloved holiday events…Carved and Enchanted Forest of Light! These two events have become family holiday traditions and for good reason! Ever evolving, innovative and oh so inclusive, this holiday season’s hot tickets continues to be at Descanso Gardens.

Carved returns to light up Descanso Gardens with a mesmerizing pumpkin wonderland featuring a new route, new locations and even more pumpkin fun October 6 through 29. .As you stroll through the captivating displays, you'll be amazed by luminous jack-o’-lanterns, fallen tree sculptures and whimsical installations, including Tom&Lien Dekyvere’s glow-in-the-dark Rhizome installation in the Rose Garden Labyrinth and giant carved pumpkins under the Rose Pavilion. This year the Día de los Muertos ofrenda altar will be expanded, providing guests with a place to meditate and remember loved ones. The pumpkin house, hay maze, and fall food offerings will all be back to round out the fun, making Carved the perfect family-friendly adventure, bringing joy and wonder to visitors of all ages.

Enchanted Forest of Light occurs November 19, 2023, to January 7, 2024. This annual holiday tradition transforms Descanso Gardens into the breathtaking Enchanted Forest of Light, taking guests on a captivating journey through stunning light displays set amidst the serene beauty of nature. This year, you can explore a new route through the Rose Garden, discovering exciting light displays that spark awe and wonder. The Rose Garden’s Labyrinth comes alive with HYBYCOZO’s 3-D geometric sculptures, and a glowing field of “meadow grass” sways amidst the rose bushes. Tom Fruin’s charming “stained glass” houses will create a village of their own on the Main Lawn, featuring new interactive lighting options. Plus, you can immerse yourself in a new hanging light installation under the oaks which evokes an ethereal ambiance that will leave you spellbound.

Tickets for both events will be available for purchase on the Descanso Gardens website, www.descansogardens.org. Descanso Gardens members will have exclusive access to tickets starting August 23 at 10 am. General admission sales open on September 6 at 10 am.

Adults: Members: $30-$40/ Non-members: $35-$45

Children 2-12: Members: $20-$25/ Non-members: $25-$30

Children under 2 are admitted free of charge.

Info and tips for your visit:

  • Get your tickets online to reserve your time

  • Enchanted is open rain or shine and there are no refunds

  • Wear a jacket and shoes for walking, it does get a bit chilly

  • The exhibit is accessible for wheelchairs, scooters and strollers

  • If you have little ones, coming early might be the way for you to go

  • Your ticket allows you to stay as long as the exhibit is open that day

  • No animals allowed (except for ADA service animals)

  • Parking is free

  • Walk is about 1 mile in length and takes aprox. 1- 1-1/2 hours to complete

  • Children under 2 free

  • Beverages and snacks are available for purchase (no outside food allowed)

Founded as a public garden in 1953, Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011. Descanso Gardens is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults; $11 for seniors and students with a school I.D.; $5 for children 5 to 12, and free for children under 5.
