Celebrate Year of the Pig at Universal Studios Hollywood
Celebrate Lunar New Year at Universal Studios Hollywood
February 2 Thru February 18, 2019
Year of the Pig will be celebrated under customary red Chinese lanterns and stunning plum blossom Wishing Trees at this years Lunar New Year event taking place within Universal Plaza inside Universal Studios. The festivities come to life as you discover the 12 zodiac animal signs accompanied by their symbolic attributes. Ever been? We have enjoyed this annual celebration for the past three years now and always enjoy all the fun character meet and greets plus it gives my girl a great excuse to wear a beautiful dress.
The highlight to this years celebration is once again the DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda Jade Palace Performance Stage that is host to the exciting Dragon Warrior Training Show based on the beloved Kung Fu Panda franchise. This Kung Fu Panda experience engages guests of all ages in an interactive martial art demonstration performed by Master Po and friends. TIP: Get there early and sit up front. They choose 5 people at random from the audience and it’s a blast to be a part of as much as it is to watch. Kids that are selected and perform on stage are given an academy headband to wear in honor of their training!
Be sure to catch the Tale of Lunar New Year immediately before the Kung Fu Academy to learn about the origin of the special celebration. Guest participation is welcomed.
Adding to the excitement of this year’s Lunar New Year festivities are new traditional dance and martial arts cultural performances. Select dates and performers are as follows:
· February 9-10 – Hangzhou Performance Groups
· February 16-17 – Southern Wind Lion Dance
· February 18 – Wong Tai Sen Lion Dance
Feng The Place Artist’s Stand is where you can sit and learn from veteran Dreamworks artists how to draw the Dragon Warrior or one of and the Furious Five in this fun activity. Take your drawing home with you as a keepsake or clip it to the wall for all to see! This activity last about 15 minutes and characters selected to be drawn are done at random.
The replica of DreamWorks Kung Fu Panda’s famous Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop offers authentic Asian fare and a selection of hot and cold Asian beverages. The attention to details is amazing and the food is really good! Mr. Ping himself will be on hand to interact with guests and take memorable souvenir photos, a definite must do!
Be sure to brush up on your Mandrin! Returning again this year to Universal Studios Hollywood’s Lunar New Year activities is the Mandarin-speaking Transformer’s MEGATRON. The imposing leader of the DECEPTICONS returns to greet guests at the entry to the festivities ominously standing 12-foot-tall , this robot interact with guests, engaging them both in Mandarin and in real-time conversation characteristic of his persona.
