L.A. River Expeditions Kayaking Tours On Sale Now

TICKETS for the popular LA River summer kayak tours are NOW AVAILABLE.

Urban kayaking guided tours offered by LA River Expeditions have become one of those Los Angeles bucket list, must-do outdoor activities. Have some cool summer fun when you paddle the Los Angeles River in this outdoors recreational adventure. There are two locations to choose from depending on experience level and overall experience you are looking for. What you will experience is a whole different perspective of the LA basin you probably never knew existed.

Sepulveda Basin. Leisurely flat water, scenic, great wildlife. Beginners welcome, 10 & up. (San Fernando Valley, near Encino) $50. You'll paddle in your single kayak for approximately 2 1/4 hrs., with all basic equipment provided (boat, lifejacket, paddle, helmet), as you learn all about the LA River from our experienced boating staff: the watershed, the wildlife, the history and the politics of our hometown river. You'll pick up paddling skills and learn how to be safer around rivers. Plus, you'll have fun and get some great exercise along the way.

This trip ia an "up & back" trip to avoid obstacles or waiting to get back to your vehicle. You'll park near the start (Burbank Blvd. @ Woodley Ave.), take a roughly 3-minute walk over a bridge to the river launch site, and then depart and return from the same riverside location.

Elysian Valley.  (aka "Glendale Narrows"). Sporty, with some light rapids. Some paddling experience helpful. (downtown LA, near Frogtown/Dodger Stadium). $70 Enjoy splashy rapids in this lush two-mile section of the Elysian Valley (aka, the "Glendale Narrows"). Learn more about future plans for the area and see the new bicycle bridge built across the river. Nature and the city combine to make this a one-of-a-kind experience.

This section has some Class-I rapids (light) and plenty of rocks to get over and around. It's fun but for the energetic -- be ready to walk, carry, stand up, sit down and, of course, paddle a lot. After safety instruction and a gear check, hop into a kayak. Expect to get wet and get a good workout. Guides will be with you all the way.
