For over sixty years, the rolling hills of North San Diego County transform into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch® in Carlsbad, California, are in bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year – from early March through early May. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area’s local heritage, also is one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in Southern California. Tickets are on sale now, get all the details below.

The amazing fields that can been seen from Interstate 5 are a result of over 85 years of floral cultivation.  Starting with Luther Gage, an early settler and grower settled in the area in the early 1920’s, Mr. Gage brought Ranunculus seeds to the area and began growing.

The flower fields were next to Frank Frazee’s small vegetable farm in South Oceanside which started a business called “Luther Gage Giant Tecolote Ranunculus bulbs”. The name “Tecolote” came from the owls that nested on his property.

Do something out of the ordinary by spending a few hours in one of nature’s wonders. let the kids run free while the adults relax and take in the views. This 50 acres of extraordinary color, better known as The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch®, welcomes visitors to enjoy the blooms as well as offers a nursery, garden, and gift shop by Armstrong Garden Centers in addition to festivals throughout the season. All this perched above and overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
