Botox for the Newbie

Botox for the Newbie

Botox the what, where, why and the eek.. is it gonna hurt?!?

Botox is one of those cosmetic procedures that up until recently was never discussed, disclosed or admitted to, like ever! Yet if you knew what to look for, you could distinguish those who had it done by their frozen faces showed no changes with expressions. Fast forward to more recent years and it's approved for all sorts of non cosmetic conditions making it acceptable and openly talked about (and used) among both men and women. I'm not shy to disclose my age, I feel considering I didn't take the best care of my skin when I was younger, it still looks pretty good. At 48 I'm seeing only minimal wrinkles (so far) and that's the way I wanna keep it as long as I can.

I want to debunk a few of the myths about Botox, share my personal experiences and let you decide for yourself without judgements. Most important piece of advise I can offer is to be sure you are treated by a skilled professional like those at CosmetiCare, it's THE only way to go. Oh and if you do decide it's something you want to try (or if you need a touch up), I'm giving away 20 units to get you on your way, so be sure to enter below!.

The first time I ever tried Botox was about 8 years ago. I was having migraines and was looking into an alternate fix. I had the injections done at a medical spa in a few of my trigger points, since I was a bit nervous my first time I didn't get a ton injected. After 3 months I went in for another session and had more units done. It really seamed to help my migraines, it was hard to believe, but it did! The other awesome benefit was the relaxing of the bothersome crease I have down the center of my forehead from years of not wearing sun glasses and squinting. Using Botox as a preventative measure on wrinkles is a great way to go. It's never too late to start even if you already have some wrinkles as I have discovered.

What is Botox: BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

  1. Real, noticeable results—you may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for treatment of moderate to severe frown lines. Results may vary.
  2. Some patients report that being injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic feels like a pinch.
  3. The actual injection time takes ≈ 1 minute or less.

What's it like getting Botox. The needle is so tiny, you barely feel a thing. An ice pack is applied to the area for a short time, the area is cleaned and the injections take just seconds. It is literally over before you know it. The effects start to happen gradually over the next few days and then poof, you will notice a relaxing of the lines and the areas become less "movable" within 2 weeks. Doing the correct amount and not over doing it to keep it natural looking is the key! I think that is where the art of Botox has truly improved. In the past they would freeze your face, now it's done so artfully and skillfully to keep you looking natural while preventing further creasing, it's amazing. The results, just as they appeared, will gradually ease up and you will need to repeat the injection every 3-6 months depending on the extent of your creases and what is recommended by your health care professional. Check out the other FDA approved uses for Botox, you might be surprised by some if them!

Treatment of migraines, excessive sweating, crossed eyes, severe neck spasms, overactive bladder. It's really incredible and as more uses for Botox are implemented, the less of a stigma it will carry. My results: I for one love what Botox has done for me. I really see the difference in the center frown line I have from before I started using Botox. Using sunglasses on a daily basis is also helping to keep my results. There are other procedures you can do in conjunction with using Botox to further diminish existing wrinkles like peels and laser (both of which I have done). These are amazing options that can help you keep looking your best all without going under the knife!
